A rare trip to Mildura has paid handsome dividends for South Australian hoop Todd Pannell, teaming up with trainer Patrick Payne for a quartet of winners.

Payne, who usually enlists the services of Billy Egan or Tahlia Hope, booked Pannell for a total of seven rides and the Group One-winning hoop made the most of his opportunity.

Payne and Pannell got the ball rolling in the opener, with the heavily-backed Bastyan ($1.55) making light work of his maiden opposition.

Special Design’s ($3.60) victory in race two completed an early Payne/Pannell double, before Hot Sizzle ($4.20) unleashed a big finish to take out race six over 1010m

The seventh event on the card was almost a carbon copy of the sixth, with Pannell booming home from near-last at the 400m to score impressively on Analytica ($2.90).

Unfortunately for ‘P-squared’, they couldn’t turn four into five in the last, with race favourite Eillod finishing on the heels of the placegetters.
